I was born in Virginia, and grew up there as I started making my way into the professional world I quickly recognized how important it
was for me to find a place where I could work and be happy. I wasn’t finding the work I did fulfilling. After a few years of working in customer service roles, I started looking
into recruiting agencies for more technical work. I had always been fascinated by computers and started getting interested in programming at a young
age - I thought this was the right move and that I would be happier in that new setting. I was lucky to find entry level work in
data centers pulling and connecting fiber optics to servers in large scale data center environments. I loved every day of it because I was working
with the incredible machinery of the future. I would always ask my boss questions about how the systems all worked and were operated with such efficiency, and he would humor me most of the time. I would like to think he also knew these buildings we worked in were nothing short of a marvel of modern engineering.
After a few years, I eventually moved out to California to follow my family who had left Virginia a few years
prior. After struggling to find work for a few months, and going from short term gigs in construction environments to hanging sound-masking speakers, I was fortunate enough to be accepted into a contract role at Teksystems where I got to work with some of
the brightest minds in the industry. I soaked in as much information as I could, and asked as many questions as possible. Thanks to the brilliance and patience of my managers I learned more on the job every day. Once my extended 12-month contract was completed, I went on to be very successful in my new
role as an IT Help Desk technician at a highly reputable architecture firm in Santa Monica. Supporting an entire office with a much smaller team, I gained experience with both ends of the corporate network spectrum. It wasn’t too long before I was contacted by my previous manager. I have returned to work alongside the Infrastructure Engineering teams at Snapchat, where I feel very confident I will be able to maximize my potential.

Over the years I have focused on absorbing as much information I can about the technology industry. Most of my skills are self-taught, but I also have many great managers to thank, who made the conscientious effort to proliferate their knowledge and also who took the time to look after my growth as an individual.
